The Leatherback Sea Turtle, scientifically known as Dermochelys coriacea, is the largest and most unique species of sea turtle. Distinguished by its leathery shell, instead of a hard one like other sea turtles, these remarkable creatures are known for their massive size, reaching lengths of up to seven feet. Leatherbacks are global travelers, with a wide distribution across oceans, and are notable for their exceptional diving abilities, often venturing to extreme depths in search of their primary prey—jellyfish.
